WELCOME

Welcome to the Home Page of Donald Mullany.

The last update saw me putting all the good stuff into a blog an experimenting with an OLTP-style Web Prescence. This has had some interesting repercussions, many of which I was unprepared.

First of which (yeah, I really did...) was the increased security features which would allow me to generate a password so intense, so random, that NO-ONE could ever crack it... including me. So the Blog spent a year with me checking in on occasion, trying everything in the book to NOT have to dump it and upload it from scratch. But it is time to admit defeat and do what I have spent so much time and energy avoiding doing.

Career-wise and as far as all the other social interaction is concerned, all is running well. My commitment to gaming is such that I am still contributing as best I can, an average of three new RPG Modules a year into conventions. I have been too busy to check, but believe I have now passed the 50-Module mark. If I had been doing this for a company, or for profit then I would probably be in some hall of fame or other. As it stands, I do it from a commitment to the Conventions, and then plan what I am doing for next year. They take, they run it and I keep writing. I find I am no longer interested in the lack of feedback, if it wasn't good or even fairly average, then I wouldn't be asked every year to contribute.

All in all, For this quarter I am going to stick with the static introduction and keep the Blog updated, but stay posted for a more radical change in the presentation as I see the need to consolidate the many sites scattered and try and recompile the Web works into a less schizophrenic and more manageable single portal of some kind.

This year see me sprint towards being published, all the work is ready and it is just the returns from the copy-editor and the book cover design to tick and check, and then it is onwards and outwards. While I have been published in Game Magazines and in genre-related fields, as well as in professional and academic subjects those have not been the same as being published as an 'author'; even if it is under a 'nom-de-plume'. Lets see how that works for awhile.

This year is also a big year for figure Wargaming. The release of DBR 3.1 on open-source and associated organization requiring set interpretations, increased skill levels and tighter quality control of the tournament and gamers skills have consumed me for the year. With the massive emmigration of South Africans out of the country to new horizons, the skills level of in-country gaming has plunged on the average, and the remaining players are hard pressed to mentor new gamers in any reliable fashion. My efforts may be too little, too late... but we all have to try.

The next two quarters will see me concentrate on:

  • Creative Writing.

  • Wargames Content Management and archival publications

  • Role Playing Module Writing

  • Figure Wargames Rules Systems

Enjoy!
